From 1985 to 2001 La Crosse, Wisconsin was the greatest minor league basketball city on the planet. In 1990 and 1992 the Catbirds won the CBA Championship. At the time Flip Saunders was the head coach of the club. Several former Catbirds made the NBA including Andre Turner, David Rivers, Mark Davis, Derrick Gervin, Elliot Perry, and Kenny Battle. August 3, 1999 marked the beginning of the end of professional basketball in La Crosse, Wisconsin as Isiah Thomas purchased the CBA. 18 months after Thomas purchased the league bankruptcy was declared. The CBA has since restarted operations, but they have yet to bring a franchise to La Crosse. Several franchises have since left the CBA for the PBL.
Fan Run Club plans to bring a real professional basketball franchise back to La Crosse. The league has not been decided yet, but we plan to begin operations Fall 2009. Currently, fans are asked to sign up for our newsletter. The newsletter will announce to fans when the signup period officially begins. Fans are asked to sign up for a yearly membership to take part in our front office as a General Manager. General Managers will have a vote on team decisions, access to private member forums, acess to private interviews, and live game video. Live game video allows fans from all over the world to join.
The cost involved will be $79.99 a year to become a General Manager. A detailed user agreement will be posted in full before membership dues are required. The newsletter option allows for us to develop a large list of fans interested in this concept. Once the list is large enough fans will be asked to purchase a yearly membership. Please only sign up for our newsletter if you are 100% sure you plan to become a GM. This allows us to only accept your money when we are comfortable with the membership level.
How can you help? The best thing you can do is send emails to inform all your friends about this opportunity. The Catbird's logo above is only a reflection of the rich history of professional basketball in La Crosse. There have be no decisions made on team name or exact venue location at this time. The press and fans with a question can contact fanrunclub@gmx.com.
